"The cake is a lie" is a phrase from the video game 'Portal', in which an artificial intelligence promises the player 'delicious cake' as a reward for passing a series of life-threatening tests. Whether or not the cake ever existed is a matter of some debate (but only among the type of people who conduct 'Kirk vs Picard' arguments).
